Overview

The global lighting manufacturer was struggling with managing orders for distribution and the IT department was coming in on weekends to manage orders. The Enterprise Applications Director reached out to CPS and after discussing their struggles, it was concluded implementing an RPA solution could solve their issues vs custom coding their ERP system.

Key Challenges

At times, the global lighting manufacturer had 1000s of orders or order lines (materials or products) to process. One major roadblock was moving/reassigning an order to a different distribution center based on where the inventory was available. The challenges they faced:

CPS recommended UiPath / RPA as an option. Ultimately, the goal was to read the data for the reassignment of location from Excel, open the order for each of those lines listed in the spreadsheet, find the line number (could be 50 or 500 lines within an order) and have the bot pick the specific line to change. An unattended robot / virtual co-worker was deployed to manage backorders daily.  

RPA technology provides the ability to record keystrokes and mouse clicks which allows citizen developers to recreate tedious non-value-added tasks. Citizen developers are typically business users, business analysts or non-programmers on the IT staff enabled to create automations using digital transformation platforms.
