Overview

The industrial automation global leader realized they needed to automate their Engineering to Order (ETO) process to reduce data entry errors and cost. The Manager of Engineering Data Management had the key responsibility of managing the company’s data management systems and their accuracy and reached out to CPS to discuss their challenges.

Key Challenges

Hundreds of materials, designs and bill of materials (BOMs) were manually created weekly in SAP. The system users were determining who should be assigned the next step and if it wasn’t chosen correctly, there were delays. The fragmented process resulted in poor data quality, no visibility into their business process and duplicate data entry. The delays due to manual data maintenance and entry were becoming too challenging and affecting multiple departments company-wide.

Their system maintenance challenges included:

Updating a homegrown, web-based process in conjunction with an enormous Access database

Maintaining 400,000 lines of code built by IT and business users

Manually checking SAP for product and costing information before creating or updating data in the system

Performing mass data updates with multiple spreadsheets and emails
